I have heard that I shouldn’t eat carbs after 7pm because I am not using (burning up) much energy then.

Me

Do you have a Monday to Friday 9 – 5 job Beccy?

Beccy

Yes, why do you ask?

Me

Do you think that you shouldn’t spend any money after 5pm or on the weekends because you are not earning money during those times?

Beccy

No. I know that how my earnings and spending’s tally up over the week is what’s important, not the timing of each transaction.

Me

It works the same way for your eating plan. The timing of the transaction is not what is important. Its how the total calories IN vs calories OUT tally up over your week.

Burn more calories than you consume each week = weight loss.

Consume more calories than you burn each week = weight gain.

(Regardless of the timings)

Do you think that if you spend money after 5pm you will automatically go into debt??
Of course not. Just as if you eat after 7pm you wont automatically gain weight.

Its not your fault that you are confused by this.

I totally get it.

It seems to make sense that we shouldn’t eat calories or carbs when we are not using energy. But if you can take some emotion out and compare it to your $$ budget, you can see how everything averages out over time.

I urge you to stop eating by the clock or by someone else’s made up rules.

  • Eat when you are hungry
  • Stop when you are satisfied (not stuffed)
  • Choose foods that keep you full
  • Move regularly (sit less)
  • Exercise when it best fits your week
