What do small rocks have to do with fat loss?

I had a question from a client this morning.
“Should I choose basmati rice (low gi) or brown rice (higher fibre) ? ”   My answer was…

SMALL ROCK

small rocks

Whaaaat??

What type of rice to eat is what I would call a small rock, a tiny little detail that makes a tiny, TINY bit of difference to your overall week.  What I would consider a bigger rock is the portion size of the rice.

Stick to one handful of your favourite rice, consume it with a lean protein source and lots of vegies… and get on with your day without giving it another thought.

When you waste mental energy and willpower (which is a limited resource)  on these small rocks and tiny, insignificant details, you risk not having any willpower left for the important stuff (big rocks).

Some examples

SMALL ROCK – How many meals to eat per day – 5 small meals? or 3 big ones?

BIG ROCK – The total number of calories and nutrients eaten over your whole day, or even your whole week is what is important.

SMALL ROCK – is broccoli or kale better for me?

BIG ROCK – choose your favourite veggies and eat lots of them.

SMALL ROCK – Should I exercise in the morning or at night?

BIG ROCK – Exercise whenever it fits best into your week.

The Small rock / Big rock theory can apply for SO MANY of our daily decisions. I know we have heard it all before, but…

DON’T SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF.

Its just not worth it.
