I lost weight this week by making this one simple change

That’s when it struck me !!  What I was doing wrong…

** Preface  –

I am a fitness and fat loss coach. I teach other people how weight loss works and how to fit it into their lives…

BUT, I am human of course and every now and then I let some bad habits slip back in to my routine. As a result, I end up carrying more body fat than I feel happy with. This has been the case of late.

Back to the story…

I take my dog Timmy for a walk every early morning. Its my favourite way to start the day. I wouldn’t call it exercise, its a relaxed stroll. Timmy want’s to stop and pee on every tree.

Sometimes I eat my breakfast (always Weet-bix) before my walk and sometimes after. Just depends on what time I get up, there is no strategy behind it. The other morning after my walk, I couldn’t remember if I had eaten breakfast or not (I had).

That’s when it struck me.

That’s when I knew what I was doing wrong.
———————————-

I have been eating SO mindlessly lately. Trying to do a million things at once and not being present in the moment. So busy and mindless that I couldn’t even remember eating my breakfast!!  You would think my hunger level would tell me, but it didn’t. I had lost touch with that too.

This week I have made a conscious effort to really focus on what I am eating.

  • To sit down when eating
  • To look at the food (This was a real eye opener, I realised I had not  looked at the food I had eaten in ages)
  • To turn off devices and distractions (HARD)
  • To feel the sensations
  • To slow down and actually chew properly
  • To feel my hunger and fullness levels
  • To really taste my food

** Just to be clear

This habit change was the ONLY thing I focussed on this week. I didn’t focus on eating less, or eating better or moving more. I am not saying that some of those things didn’t happen, but I did not focus on them. Its amazing how clear I got when I focused on ONE THING and not trying to change everything at once.

Boy oh boy, its been weird and difficult and GREAT.
** I have not been perfect 100% of the time.

The following results have occurred as a result of this one small habit change

  • I have lost weight this week. ( No doubt a big reason for some of my extra weight was due to all of my mindless eating )
  • My jeans fit better
  • I have enjoyed my food more.
  • I have eaten less junk.
  • I have eaten less food in general.
  • I am in better touch with hunger vs boredom.

one simple change

I highly recommend giving it a try.

This change is a tiny part of a structured online program that I have been trialling. I do a quick check with the others in the group each day,  which helps (big time) in keeping me focussed and accountable.

We all know that starting a habit change like this is the easy part, staying focused on it after 2 days (or 2 hours) is the hard part. I am loving the program so far. It is not a weight loss program, its a healthy habit change program. But hey, if weight loss comes as a side effect, I am not complaining. 🙂
