How I get myself to exercise when I don’t feel motivated

Hi, I’m Chriss.16

I’ve been a Personal Trainer and fat loss coach for more than 20 years.

You might think that I bound out of bed each day at 5.30am excited to run hill sprints and do push ups….

Not exactly.

Don’t get me wrong, some days I feel full of energy and motivated to exercise and some days…. well some days I would rather be a sloth on the lounge and watch my favourite show on TV.

This is what I tell myself when I have an exercise session planned, but I am thinking about bailing.

Clarification – This is a script to get yourself to do an adequate amount of exercise each week. I normally recommend between 3 – 6 hours of effective exercise.

This is not a script to over-exercise or force yourself to exercise if you are sick or injured.

This is what I tell myself.

(Maybe you could repeat after me)

I am tired and couldn’t be bothered.

I am going to exercise anyway…

I know that I will feel AWESOME and AMAZING once the session is complete

I cant get motivated.
I am going to exercise anyway…

I always feel way more motivated AFTER my session than before it

I am too busy.
I am going to exercise anyway…

If I don’t use my muscles, I start to lose them (and I really don’t want that to happen)

I have got other things to do.
I am going to exercise anyway…

It can help me to manage my weight by burning up extra calories compared to sitting on the lounge

It feels too hard.
I am going to exercise anyway…

My energy levels will improve

I don’t feel like it.
I am going to exercise anyway…

My health, heart and lungs will love me for it

I am not any good at it.
I am going to exercise anyway..

It keeps me feeling young

It’s too hot / cold / early / late.
I am going to exercise anyway…

It makes me feel confident, powerful, strong and in control

It’s not working / making any difference
I am going to exercise anyway…

The tiny improvements add up over time to become BIG improvements

It’s boring.
I am going to exercise anyway…

Bodies are meant to move and run and jump and be active

I am too fat / lazy / old.
I am going to exercise anyway…

This is the only body that I will ever own. It deserves to be treated well

It wont make any difference if I skip this session.
I am going to exercise anyway…

If I skip this session I will be more likely to skip the next and the next

and I don’t want to get into that bad habit.

I am not improving, it’s not even helping.
I am going to exercise anyway…

Action alleviates anxiety

I am going to exercise anyway because

I said I would and I commit to my word.

Get up and get moving.
