“I’m just not motivated to exercise”
“How can I get motivated to eat well?”
“I think most clients need help with motivation” – (from my Doctor)

How can I spell it out in a clear (and very blunt) way??
Waiting for motivation to strike before you take action… IS BULLSH#T.
Imagine if you waited for motivation to strike before you went to work each day. Or waited to be motivated before you had a shower, or cleaned your teeth, or paid your bills.
It doesn’t work that way. Sometimes you need to take an action simply because you know its the right thing to do.

Here is a little known secret about motivation..
Motivation usually comes AFTER an action, not before.
Here is a video that I shared with my Facebook community. I was NOT motivated to run these stairs during my Christmas holiday, but I was so motivated AFTER I had run them.
To answer the initial question – – “How do I get myself motivated?”
Answer – – I don’t. But I take action anyway. Motivation usually happens afterwards.

A trick to get started
I take the minimum amount of action to get moving in a forward direction.
Example –
When I was NOT motivated to run the stairs on my holiday (see video), I didn’t tell myself that I would run 10 sets of stairs. There is too much resistance there. I told myself that I would run 1 set of stairs.
Guess what happened after that?
I got a little shot of dopamine to my brain. The feel good chemical released when you achieve something. That little feel good factor was enough for me to do another set of stairs and then another, until I had run all 10.

I am nowhere near perfect.
There are still times when I am not motivated and I stay under the doona covers. But this little trick gets me moving more times than not.
I would love for you to give it a try and let me know how you go.
