Fat burning zone – fact or fiction

What intensity should you exercise at to burn the most body fat?

When you exercise at a low-medium intensity, you burn a higher percentage of body fat.

Around 65% fat / 35% carbohydrate.

—————-

When you exercise at a High Intensity (particularly with interval training)

You burn around 50% fat / 50% carbs.

Let’s test it out.

If you walk (low – medium intensity) for 1 hour, you will burn around 300 calories in total. (65kg woman used as example)

That’s 195 calories from body fat

And 105 calories from carbohydrate.

——————

With High Intensity training (again intervals are best) and you can choose any exercise, eg. running, swimming, cycling, skipping, boxing, you would burn around 600 calories.

That’s 300 calories from body fat

And 300 calories from carbohydrates.

*** Tip – – To know if you are at the correct intensity, there should be certain times throughout your session where you are only able to say a couple of words. If you can have a conversation throughout your whole workout,  that’s medium intensity.***

As you can see, you burn MORE body fat with the high intensity. Not to mention the fact that you also burnt 300 calories of carbohydrates.

If you don’t burn your carbohydrates they turn to fat anyway.
